Ross Box

The Ross Box system is capable of processing very high quantities of gravel economically, efficiently, and with very high recoveries when properly operated.

The Ross Box system has been used in some of the largest placer operations in the world for over twenty-five years and has processed hundreds of millions of yards for its owners. It has also been designed with long term usage in mind.

The Ross Box system has been designed to be free of moving parts (except for pumps and earth moving equipment) to assure an almost totally maintenance free machine and a long equipment lifetime.

Dump Box

Large heavy-duty Dump Box contains a sufficient volume of auriferous gravels to maintain constant feed to the distribution and recovery areas between cycles of the loading equipment.

Distribution

The Primary Distribution area is built into the dump box. It is constructed of heavy, punched plates with adjustable pitch, normally flatter than the general slop of the box. The purpose is to ensure proper classification and feed control to minimize "surging" of unwashed gravel into the recovery areas. This promotes vigorous washing and "liberation" of the gold particles which is essential to maximize the high recovery capabilities of the Ross Box.

The Secondary Distribution area is utilized to classify the gravels, dropping the auriferous fines into the carefully controlled side recovery channels.

Recovery Areas

The Primary Recovery area is located immediately under the primary Distribution area and traps the gold as it is released from the gravel due to vigorous scrubbing action of the water.

The Secondary Recovery areas are located downstream from the Secondary Distribution area. The fine gold is recovered in the side channels, and the gold nuggets are captured in the center channel.

The Tertiary Recovery area is a find gold area, trapping gold released from the coarser material and clays travelling down the center channel.

Water Manifolds

The Main Manifold is adjustable horizontally and can be rotated to provide a vigorous scrubbing action and regulate the flow of materials into the recovery areas. The two Swing Manifolds ensure excellent dump box coverage and scrubbing of all fee material.

The Throat Manifold in the secondary distribution area ensures effective washing and classiin this zone.

The optional Water Monitors mount on the main manifold and offer 360 degree rotation. The balanced design of these swiveling "water cannons" can greatly enhance washing and control of larger rocks with minimal operator effort.

Clean Up

During clean up, all of the concentrate is washed into strategically located pockets, to longitudinal tubes transporting the concentrate to the bottom end of the sluice box to maximize security and to simplify pickup.

Construction

The cast alloy steel punch plates are 3/4" thick for long wear, and contain tapered holes to minimize blinding. The reinforced square tube sub-frame and skid ensures strength and facilitates ease of movement with construction equipment.
